Senior Community Engagement Officer for Elin Jones MS

Salary Range: £30,520 - £42,811  (pro rata)

All new staff are expected to enter on the scale minimum of the appropriate pay band. Individual staff will, subject to satisfactory performance, move up the incremental scale one point at a time on the anniversary of their commencement of employment until they reach the scale maximum for their band.

Working hours: 32 hours per week.

Appointment Type: Permanent.

Location: Constituency Office (Aberystwyth).

Purpose of Job:

The Senior Community Engagement Officer’s main role will be to work closely with constituents, groups and organisations in Ceredigion to promote and lead on community projects, representing the Member in the community, and respond to enquiries from constituents. Talking by phone and on email with the people of Ceredigion will be key to this role, working with Elin and the team to find solutions and opportunities.

As well as supporting Elin in her role, the Officer will also attend meetings, Research and respond to enquiries, working as a key part of the team.

Main Duties

1. Leading on community projects, which allow the Member to proactively respond to difficulties which affect many constituents within the county. This will include organising public meetings, collecting feedback from constituents, and communicating with local organisations and contacts.

2. Lead on increasing the Member’s ability to engage with the community across the county, by arranging presence and representing the Member in local events.

3. Responding to enquiries from constituents, especially cases created by matters of policy or topics which affect a number of constituents.

4. Support the member with their social media presence, in cooperation with the Communications and Research Manager.

Essential Knowledge and Experience

• The ability to work in both Welsh and English to a high standard
• The ability to undertake administrative work
• Information on matters of relevance to the local area, and an understanding of them
• Experience of working within the community
• Strong communication skills with the ability to discuss difficult matters sensitively
• Understanding of, and commitment to, combating discrimination and promoting the equality of opportunities and the Nolan Principles of Public Life

Essential Qualifications

• A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
• NVQ Qualification level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject’
• Evidence of literacy and numeracy skills e.e. GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualifications).
